ART TIME RESIDENCY: MUSIC
International nonprofit association Mophradat from Brussels is collaborating with Berliner Festspiele / MaerzMusik and DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program on a residency program open to musicians/composers/producers/sound & interdisciplinary artists from or living in the Arab world to work collaboratively with the Berlin-based Ensemble Adapter on a new work to be presented at MaerzMusik festival in 2024. The residency, which takes place in Berlin and remotely, offers the artist and Ensemble Adapter flexibility as they work together, encouraging research into innovative creation processes beyond the borders of notation and conventional presentation formats and engagement with experimental and dialogical approaches to artistic work.
The selected artist will receive a monthly stipend for a duration of four-and-a-half months for the period in which she/he/they is/are in residence and conceiving a new work with Ensemble Adapter. Together with the DAAD, MaerzMusik will host the artist in Berlin for two working sessions with the ensemble from 15 November to 15 December in 2023, and 1 February to 25 March in 2024. A living and working space in Berlin will be provided during the on-site stays, access to various studios and sites, and introducions to peers in the city. The residency will also cover the costs of return economy travel for both trips, visa, and travel insurance, and the festival will provide the artist with a fee for the commission and concert.

Ein Klang, ein Ton, ein Geräusch – Musik lockt uns in ein unbekanntes Land. Wir machen uns auf den Weg und folgen ihr durch klingende Landschaften, in lichte Wälder, durch das tiefe Wasser bis hin zu den Sternen. Wir erleben singende Gräser, tönende Bäume und treffen merkwürdige Wesen mit Flüsterhaaren und Trommelbäuchen. Und plötzlich haben auch wir Flötenfinger, stimmen in deren Unterhaltung mit ein, klopfen, streichen, trällern, zwitschern…In dieser Inszenierung wird die Studiobühne zum Klangraum mit tönenden Wänden und klingenden Objekten. Gemeinsam gehen Schauspieler*innen, Musiker*innen und Zuschauer*innen in diesem Raum auf eine Reise und erkunden neue musikalische Welten. Diese Inszenierung wird im Rahmen des Programms Jupiter der Kulturstiftung des Bundes gefördert. Gefördert von der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien.
